Uzbekistan has expressed concern over the increasing number of reports of rights violations and cases of cruel treatment of citizens of the republic working in Russia. This issue was raised on May 2 during a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bobur Usmanov and Russian Ambassador Oleg Malginov, Fergana.ru reports, citing the republic's Foreign Ministry.
Usmanov emphasized that the harassment of labor migrants from Uzbekistan violates their rights and freedoms, which should be ensured by Russian laws.
“In this regard, the need for a thorough study of the issue raised and for conveying the concerns of the Uzbek side to the relevant competent authorities of the Russian Federation was emphasized,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The department noted that regular consultations with the Russian side contribute to the effective protection of citizens' interests and the improvement of cooperation in the field of migration. Particular attention is paid to issues of pre-departure language and professional training of migrants, the transfer of part of the permitting procedures to Uzbekistan and measures to ensure compliance with the law in Russia.
The parties agreed to continue close cooperation on the mutual protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens of Uzbekistan and Russia on the territory of the two countries.
It is noted that the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan did not report the summons of the ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic. On the day of the meeting, it reposted a memo for foreign citizens moving to Russia, which states that "Russia is a country in which you want to live and work. Free, safe and welcoming to friends."
