In the first half of 2026, 28 foreign citizens were detained in Tajikistan on suspicion of drug trafficking, compared to 10 such cases in the same period last year. This was reported by the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the agency, 694 kg of narcotics were seized from the detained foreigners, which is significantly higher than last year's figure, when 147 kg were seized.
The majority of those detained were 18 Afghan citizens, from whom 601 kg of drugs were seized. In addition, six Uzbek citizens were arrested for drug-related offenses, with 65 kg of drugs seized, one Kazakh citizen with 10 kg, two Kyrgyz citizens with 5 kg, and one Ukrainian citizen with 11 kg of drugs seized.
The Agency noted that the fight against transnational drug trafficking remains one of the priority areas of activity for the republic's law enforcement agencies.
