Five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup will be the last of his career.
Earlier, the 41-year-old footballer's sister, Katia Aveiro, told reporters that her brother would retire from the Portuguese national team after the 2026 World Cup. Ronaldo later said that he had not yet made a final decision regarding his future.
Now the Portuguese footballer has confirmed that the current World Cup will be his last.
"Yes, this will be my last World Cup. I just have to enjoy it," Ronaldo said.
The footballer also noted that he always gives his all to the game and considers his role in the team important, regardless of whether he goes on the field or remains on the sidelines.
"I always put my heart and soul into the game. Whether I play or not, I will always have an important role. I will retire, as I said several years ago, when I want to, not when you journalists want to," the Portuguese declared.
Ronaldo added that he does not intend to constantly discuss the issue of ending his career and considers repeated questions on this topic a waste of time.
"I think asking the same question over and over again is a waste of time. I don't want to focus on it. The main thing is to play well and believe we'll go through," Record quotes Ronaldo as saying.
Today, July 6, the Portuguese national team will face Spain in the World Cup Round of 16. The match will take place in Dallas, USA, and kicks off at 12:00 AM Dushanbe time .
