Switzerland became one of Tajikistan's top three trading partners for the period January–May 2026, ranking third after China and Russia. According to the Statistics Agency under the President of Tajikistan, trade between the two countries exceeded $1.013 billion during this period.
Compared to last year, the ranking of the republic's largest trading partners has changed. At the end of 2025, Kazakhstan held third place with a trade volume of over $1.19 billion, while Tajikistan's trade turnover with Switzerland amounted to almost $386.5 million, approximately 50% less than the 2024 figure. However, in the first five months of 2026, Kazakhstan fell to fourth place with a trade volume of approximately $649 million, while Switzerland rose to third place.
Switzerland also became Tajikistan's largest export partner, accounting for 36.3% of all Tajik exports from January to May, worth $508.2 million. China followed with 25.7% and Turkey with 7.6%.
China and Russia remain the leading foreign trade partners with Tajikistan. In the first five months of 2026, trade turnover with China reached nearly $1.44 billion, a 50% increase compared to the same period last year. Trade with Russia totaled $1.11 billion, a 23.1% increase year-on-year.
The main suppliers of goods to Tajikistan remain China, which accounts for 24.7% of total imports, Russia – 24%, Kazakhstan – 13.8% and Switzerland – 11.6%.
Overall, Tajikistan's foreign trade turnover for January–May 2026 exceeded $5.7 billion, 48.5% higher than the same period last year. Imports reached nearly $4.37 billion, while exports totaled approximately $1.4 billion.
Tajikistan's exports primarily consisted of mineral products, base metals and metal products, textiles and textile goods, and plant products. Imports were dominated by mineral products, machinery and equipment, base metals and metal products, plant and processed food products, and chemicals.
