National Unity Day is one of the public holidays in Tajikistan and is celebrated annually on June 27.
The holiday was established to commemorate the end of the five-year civil war from 1992 to 1997. It was on June 27, 1997, in Moscow that President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the leader of the United Tajik Opposition, Said Abdullo Nuri, signed the General Agreement on Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan. The document ended the armed conflict, ensured the return of refugees to their homeland, and became a symbol of the country's unity, stability, and peaceful development.
