On June 16, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon signed the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On Amnesty," marking the 35th anniversary of the country's state independence. This was reported by the press service of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

As noted, the head of state exercised his constitutional right and submitted the draft law to the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan. After parliament adopted the document, the president signed it into law.

According to the report, the adoption of the Law "On Amnesty" is a manifestation of the humane policy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and is aimed at providing individuals who have committed crimes with the opportunity to reform, return to their families and loved ones, and engage in creative activities.

The law applies to 18,038 convicted individuals. Specifically, 11,305 individuals will be released from further prison sentences, correctional facilities, and other non-custodial sentences.

In addition, for 6,733 convicts, a reduction in the unserved portion of their sentence is envisaged.

The law places special emphasis on women and minors. Of the 507 women currently serving sentences, 248 will be fully exempted from the remainder of their sentences, and 259 will have their sentences reduced.

The amnesty will also apply to juvenile offenders. Of the 134 juveniles currently serving sentences, 99 will be released from further imprisonment, and 35 will have their remaining sentences reduced.

The statement emphasizes that the provisions of the Amnesty Law also apply to individuals whose criminal cases are pending before courts, inquiry bodies, and investigative bodies.

The document obliges the relevant government agencies to ensure compliance with the law within two months and submit a report to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In addition, local executive bodies of state power and other government agencies have been instructed to take measures to employ individuals released from penal institutions, ensure that minors receive education, and organize the registration and unified accounting of these individuals.

According to the established procedure, the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Amnesty” is subject to official publication in the press.
