Beijing prioritizes developing good-neighborly relations with Myanmar and is guided by the principles of friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit, and openness. Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke of this during talks with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, who is in China on a state visit. The Chinese leader noted that China is willing to share its development experience with Myanmar and jointly build a community with a shared future. He expressed confidence that this will benefit the peoples of both countries and contribute to maintaining peace and development in the region.
Xi Jinping mentioned the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, calling it a flagship project of the two countries as part of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. He emphasized that the two sides must advance the implementation of key projects based on the principle of ensuring security in order to assist Myanmar in economic development and improving living standards.
Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing noted that the two countries enjoy a strong friendship and that China and Myanmar have always provided mutual assistance and support, steadfastly adhering to the Five Principles of Peaceful Existence. He thanked China for its long-standing selfless support for Myanmar's development, stability, peace, and reconciliation and assured that his country will firmly uphold the one-China principle.
Min Aung Hlaing emphasized that China's implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan creates numerous opportunities for China's Asian neighbors, including Myanmar. He expressed hope for stronger cooperation, including in the construction of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor and increased trade and investment. The Myanmar president stated that Myanmar will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese enterprises and citizens in Myanmar and will closely cooperate with China, including in combating telecommunications fraud. He also expressed support for the Four Global Initiatives proposed by the Chinese president and his willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with China within multilateral frameworks.
