On the night of February 11-12, an avalanche approximately 20 meters high and more than 100 meters wide occurred on the 49th kilometer of the Dushanbe-Chanak highway, in the Varzob district.
According to the IRS branch, specialized equipment was quickly dispatched to the scene. After the snow was cleared, traffic was partially restored.
"A convoy of vehicles, escorted by our employees and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' State Traffic Inspectorate, departed Khujand for Dushanbe and successfully arrived in the capital," the company noted.
According to the IRS, traffic along the highway in both directions is planned to be fully restored in the near future.
Meanwhile, the Hydrometeorology Agency warns that the threat of further avalanches remains.
From February 12 to 14, due to ongoing snowfalls on avalanche-prone sections of the Dushanbe-Chanak highway (48-74 km and 78-81 km), especially on the Maikhura-Zidekh section of the Varzob district, as well as in the mountainous regions of republican subordination and in the west of GBAO, a high risk of avalanches remains, the agency reported.
