On Saturday, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council of the People's Republic of China held a joint celebration in Beijing to mark the upcoming Chinese New Year. General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping extended his best wishes to all Chinese people.
A gala reception to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival—Chinese New Year—was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The event was attended by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, along with other Chinese party and state leaders. Xi Jinping addressed the participants.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping: "The Spring Festival and the Year of the Horse are approaching. Today, we have gathered to bid farewell to the outgoing year and welcome the new one. First of all, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council of the People's Republic of China, I extend my congratulations to the multi-ethnic people of our country, our compatriots in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese, on the Spring Festival."
Describing the concluding Year of the Snake as remarkable, Xi Jinping noted that China has overcome difficulties and achieved progress in a complex environment, taking the country's economic and scientific-technical potential, defense capability, and other state capabilities to a new level.
According to Xi Jinping, over the past year, China's economy has withstood pressure and achieved sustained growth, demonstrating high resilience. Xi Jinping noted China's significant progress over the past year in various areas, including rule of law, cultural initiatives, environmental protection, and defense.
Xi Jinping particularly noted the adoption in 2025 of the proposals for drafting the 15th Five-Year Development Plan for the country, the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the establishment of Taiwan Liberation Memorial Day, the celebration of the anniversaries of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and the holding of the 15th National Games in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Xi Jinping also noted that this past year, China launched a global governance initiative and successfully hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the Global Women's Summit. He also noted the significant results of anti-corruption efforts in 2025.
All these results, Xi Jinping noted, were made possible thanks to the concerted efforts of the entire Communist Party of China and representatives of all ethnic groups across the country.
In 2026, Xi Jinping called for advancing high-quality development, maintaining social harmony and stability, and consistently implementing full and rigorous Party self-governance to ensure a successful start to the new Five-Year Plan.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping: "In Chinese culture, the horse is a symbol of strength, power, and tireless self-improvement, heralding the prospects of stable development, prosperity, and success. In the Year of the Horse, we hope that all the people of our country, all of our ethnic groups, will rally even more closely around the CPC Central Committee, firmly believe in our inevitable victory, maintain a high spirit, and, spurring on the new path of Chinese modernization, courageously rush forward to jointly create an even more beautiful future."
The ceremonial meeting also included performances by cultural and artistic figures.
