On February 27, an extraordinary meeting of the Regional Commission for Road Safety was held in the small hall of the Executive Body of State Authority of the Sughd Region. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.
The event was chaired by the First Deputy Chairman of the region and head of the commission, Suhayli Kurbonzoda. Representatives of the Republican Commission participated in the meeting, including Deputy Chief of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, Police Colonel Rakhmatsho Khusainzoda, Senior Advisor to the Chief of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Abdusattor Kholov, as well as delegations from 18 cities and districts of the region and representatives of road management agencies.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan's resolution on ensuring road safety and eliminating identified deficiencies.
It was noted that 960 road accidents were recorded in the Sughd region between 2022 and 2025. As a result of these accidents, 484 people died and 978 suffered various injuries. These statistics indicate the insufficient effectiveness of the preventive measures taken.
Traffic violations were cited as the leading cause of road accidents. Specifically, speeding accounts for 68.2% of all accidents, driving into oncoming traffic accounts for 15%, and improper maneuvering accounts for 5%.
Other factors that contribute to accidents include failure to observe road signs, driving through intersections when the traffic light is red, failure to maintain a safe distance, improper road crossings, and the use of mobile phones by drivers and pedestrians.
The analysis showed that the low level of culture of road users also contributes to the increase in the number of road accidents.
The meeting emphasized that in order to reduce the number of accidents, special attention must be paid to teaching traffic rules in secondary schools.
In addition, the installation of road signs and traffic lights, the prevention of construction of structures that create obstacles on the sides of roads, road repairs, and the provision of medical assistance to victims are recognized as important measures.
The commission members were instructed to intensify their work and use all available means to reduce the number of road accidents and preserve the lives and health of road users.
