On March 6, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda and Sughd Regional Governor Rajab Ahmadzoda inspected the progress of construction work at the Tajik Metallurgical Plant (TMP) iron ore enrichment plant in the Bobojon Gafurov district, according to the Sughd Regional Administration press service.
It is noted that the enterprise is being built using domestic investment and will be engaged in the extraction, processing, and enrichment of iron ore using modern technologies.
This is reportedly the first iron ore enrichment plant in Tajikistan, built since the country's independence. Its operations are expected to contribute to the development of the mining industry, strengthen the country's production capacity, and increase domestic exports.

According to officials, approximately 50 percent of the construction work has been completed to date. Installation of equipment and process units is currently ongoing.
Iron ore reserves at this deposit are estimated at approximately 60 million tons.
The facility will reportedly be commissioned in two stages, by 2027 and 2031. The annual mining and processing capacity of the facility will be 2.5 million tons of ore.

The processing will produce 1.1 million tons of concentrate with an iron content of 62–65 percent. A significant portion of the output will be exported.
It is noted that currently more than 800 specialists work at 15 production sites.
Once the first phase of the plant is operational, 1,200 people will be employed. Once fully operational, more than 2,000 people will be permanently employed.
It is emphasized that the construction of such a large industrial enterprise is of great importance for the creation of new jobs, increasing industrial production and developing the country's economy.
