US President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Iran demanding that it unblock the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, threatening to attack the country's energy infrastructure if it does not.
According to him, if Iran does not open the strait fully and without threats within the specified deadline, the United States will strike a number of facilities, including large power plants.
Donald Trump made the corresponding statement on his social network Truth Social at 0:44 CET on Sunday, March 22.
Iran responded promptly to the threat. A statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Operations Command, published by the state-run Fars News Agency, stated that in the event of an attack on Iran's oil and energy infrastructure, all US and allied energy, IT, and desalination facilities in the region would be targeted for retaliatory strikes.
Shortly before this, Donald Trump also commented on a publication by The New York Times author David Sanger, which claimed that the American president had failed to achieve a number of military goals in Iran.
In response, Trump claimed to have achieved his goals even ahead of schedule. He claimed Iran's leadership had been destroyed, its navy and air force had been destroyed, and the country was supposedly defenseless and ready to sign a deal, which, as the US president noted, he would not agree to.
In addition, Donald Trump criticized the author of the publication, calling him “worthless” and the publication itself a “failure.”
