US President Donald Trump stated that the American military could cease attacks on Iran within the next two to three weeks. He made this announcement while speaking to reporters at the White House on the night of April 1.
He said military action could be ended even without an agreement with Tehran. He noted that regime change in Iran was not part of his plans, and the primary US goal was to prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump asserted that this goal has been achieved.
The US President also suggested that the war could end sooner if an agreement is reached, which he said the Iranian authorities are seeking. However, he emphasized that the agreement itself is not decisive.
Commenting on the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, Trump stated that the blockade, initiated by Iran after the US and Israel launched attacks, does not concern the United States. He said other countries interested in oil and gas supplies should resolve issues related to passage through the strait independently.
He also commented on the roughly 50% rise in oil prices caused by the outbreak of the conflict and the blockade of the Strait. Trump believes prices will decline once the US ceases attacks on Iran, which he stated will happen soon.
