Police have detained a suspect in the theft of 23,500 somoni worth of building materials from a store and a dishonest taxi driver who embezzled 6,700 somoni, according to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.
The Jaykhun District Department of Internal Affairs received a statement from a 26-year-old resident of the Jaykhun district that on August 26, 2025, unknown individuals secretly entered his building materials store, stole 23,500 somoni from there, and fled the scene.
During the course of operational investigative activities, police officers established that the crime was committed by a 16-year-old resident of the Jaykhun district.
During the investigation, police also detained a 29-year-old Dushanbe resident on suspicion of theft. The suspect, a driver for Jura-Taxi, was driving a 31-year-old local resident and his family from Yakka-Chinar Street to Khovaron Market around 1:00 PM on January 10, 2026.
When the woman got out of the car, she forgot her wallet, which contained 6,700 somoni, two bank cards, and her passport. The man detained found the wallet in the backseat of his car at a gas station near the Mekhkalon Mosque in the Sino district of the capital, removed the 6,700 somoni, and threw it into a drain.
An investigation is underway into these facts.
