In 2025, the capital's police uncovered 163 cases of citizens engaging in fortune-telling and witchcraft, according to the Dushanbe Department of Internal Affairs.
According to the agency, those involved in this activity used it as a means of obtaining material gain. Administrative protocols were drawn up against the identified violators under Article 482 of the Code of the Republic of Tajikistan on Administrative Offenses. The court sentenced them to a fine and administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
It is noted that some citizens repeatedly engaged in fortune-telling and witchcraft, intentionally committing illegal acts. Given their incorrigibility, in 2025, criminal cases were initiated against 14 such individuals under Article 240, Amendment 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan and sent to court for trial.
Furthermore, citizens are informed that from now on, individuals who contact fortune tellers and use their services will also be subject to administrative liability. The violations will be reported under Article 482, Amendment 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Tajikistan, with a fine of 50 to 60 times the calculated rate.
In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens to assist the police in completely eliminating this negative phenomenon.
