The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China has published the responses of the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry to correspondents' questions about countermeasures in connection with the US sale of weapons to the Taiwan region of China.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a decision on countermeasures against 20 American military-industrial companies and 10 of their senior executives on its website.
In response to questions about this decision received on the Ministry's website, the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided additional comments.
The official response noted: "In response to the recent US announcement of large-scale arms sales to China's Taiwan region, China, in accordance with the provisions of the PRC Counter-Foreign Sanctions Law, has decided to take retaliatory measures against 20 US military-related enterprises and 10 senior officials involved in arming Taiwan in recent years.
I would like to emphasize that the Taiwan issue is China's most vital core interest and the first red line in Sino-US relations that must not be crossed. Any provocative actions that cross the line on the Taiwan issue will be met with a decisive response from China. Any companies or individuals involved in arms sales to Taiwan will pay a price. No country or power should underestimate the firm resolve, unwavering will, and powerful capabilities of the Chinese government and people in upholding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
China once again calls on the United States to firmly adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, fulfill the formal commitments made by American leaders, cease its dangerous actions to arm Taiwan, cease undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and stop sending the wrong signals to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence." China will continue to take resolute measures to firmly safeguard its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
