In Kyrgyzstan, Kadyrbek Atambayev, son of former President Almazbek Atambayev, along with several former members of parliament and businessmen, have been arrested, NUR.KZ reports, citing 24.kg.
A case of mass riots has been opened against those detained. Those arrested include Kadyrbek Atambayev, former members of parliament Ermek Ermatov and Kubanychbek Kadyrov, and businessman Urmat Baryktabasov. All have been remanded in custody until January 17, 2026.
Kadyrbek Atambayev later announced that the case against him had been reclassified as a more serious offense—he was charged with attempting to violently overthrow the government.
Earlier, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the arrest of members of a destructive group plotting mass unrest after the parliamentary elections. According to investigators, the group included political figures, former members of parliament, former civil servants, and law enforcement officers who recruited supporters, including organized crime groups and sports clubs, to provoke and cause violent clashes.
"The detainees planned a series of rallies across the country after the election results were announced, starting in the south and then in Bishkek and the regions, creating the appearance of mass discontent. Their plans included unconstitutional calls, as well as the possible seizure of administrative buildings, television channels, security forces facilities, weapons, and penitentiary institutions," the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
Earlier, another citizen was detained in Kyrgyzstan, suspected of spreading calls for mass unrest and the violent seizure of power.
