During an operational search, police officers in the Khuroson district detained a 42-year-old resident of the district on suspicion of theft or embezzlement of funds, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
According to law enforcement agencies, the suspect was appointed controller of the second group of electrical networks in the Khuroson district on February 10, 2022, based on an order from the head of the branch of JSC Distribution Electric Networks in the city of Bokhtar.
During his work, in agreement with a 36-year-old resident of the Khuroson district, who illegally recruited consumers to collect electricity bills, the suspect collected 24,961 somoni from consumers, printed payment receipts, amended them, and provided them to consumers.
Of the collected amount, 854 somoni were deposited into the invoicing program, and the remaining 24,107 somoni were spent by the suspect for personal purposes.
A criminal case has been opened against both participants in the incident under Part 2 of Article 245 and Article 340 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. The investigation is ongoing.
