The 59th plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Dushanbe. The session was attended by Rustami Emomali, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and Mayor of Dushanbe, according to the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Rustami Emomalii warmly welcomed the distinguished guests in the lobby of the Majlisi Oli building. Heads of parliaments and delegations from CIS countries arrived to participate in the meeting, including Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly and Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation; Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus; Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Ziyafat Askerov, Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Ruben Rubinyan, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia; Shabdanbek Alishev, Deputy Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly Council and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan; and Serdar Gayipov, Chairman of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
Following the greeting of the guests, a group photo was taken with the heads of delegations. The Assembly's plenary session then began, with Rustami Emomali delivering an opening address. He warmly welcomed his colleagues, heads of delegations, and members of the official parliamentary delegations of the CIS countries, noting the particular importance of developing interparliamentary ties under Tajikistan's chairmanship of the Commonwealth.
The Chairman of the Majlisi Milli emphasized that the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly has been functioning for over thirty years as an important platform for exchanging experience, coordinating legislative initiatives, and developing solutions aimed at strengthening cooperation among the Commonwealth's member states.
In the context of new global challenges, including climate change, security threats, digital risks, and the consequences of global crises, the role of parliamentary diplomacy is becoming especially significant and effective, he noted.
At the meeting, participants discussed improving legal mechanisms and harmonizing national legislation. Draft model legal acts in the areas of economics, healthcare, security, and counterterrorism were reviewed, as well as initiatives to strengthen cooperation in the humanitarian and social spheres.
It was noted that the adoption of these documents will provide an appropriate legal basis for the implementation of joint projects and long-term cooperation programs between the CIS countries.
