In Tajikistan, Tajiktelecom has developed and launched a national messaging app called Oriz. This was reported by the Government Communications Service.
"In an era of rapid technological development and global information competition, the availability of national communications tools is becoming a key element of independence and national security. In this context, at the initiative of the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Tajiktelecom OJSC has launched a new national messenger called Oriz," reads a statement on the agency's website.
It is noted that the messenger was developed to ensure convenient, high-quality, and secure communication between Russian citizens, compatriots abroad, and other users. "Its goal is to create a completely domestic and reliable digital environment. Access to Oriz is possible from anywhere in the world," the Communications Service added.
Among the features currently available in the messenger are sending text and voice messages, voice and video calls, creating groups and channels, sending files, photos, and videos without restrictions, and holding video conferences via a link, including without registration.
Oriz can be installed on smartphones via the Google Play and App Stores, as well as on Windows and Mac computers. A web version of the messenger is also available. Registration in the app is completed using a phone number.
One of Oriz's main advantages is its effectiveness even with low internet speeds. "Since the servers and data center are located within the country, users can send messages, make calls, and conduct video conferences even with a weak connection. This advantage is especially important for remote regions of the country and Tajik migrants abroad, as most foreign applications only work properly with high-speed internet," the Communications Service emphasized.
The agency noted that the experience of restricting access to foreign platforms in a number of countries, particularly Russia, has shown that dependence on foreign networks can harm information security and social connections, as the servers, data, and policies for using such applications are controlled by other countries, and there are no guarantees of stable and continuous access.
Specialists from the Communications Service called the creation of Oriz "a significant step toward Tajikistan's digital sovereignty." "The messenger allows user data to be stored within the country, ensuring communications without dependence on other countries, while institutions and citizens can communicate in a secure and reliable environment. The emergence of domestic platforms in the face of global competition demonstrates that Tajikistan is capable of creating high-quality and secure digital products using its own potential," the agency emphasized.
