Today, November 10, 2025, a ceremony to award scholarship certificates to the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Tajikistan was held in the cultural hall of the Confucius Institute at the Tajik National University.
The event was attended by the Rector of the Tajik National University, Professor Emomali Nasriddinzoda, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Tajikistan, Guo Zhijun, as well as representatives of diplomatic and educational institutions.
The ceremony began with a screening of the documentary "20 Years: Together with the Confucius Institute. The Story of Wang Huiquan's Chinese Language Teaching at the Confucius Institute and the Strengthening of Chinese-Tajik Relations." Viewers were shown a video dedicated to the work of Confucius Institute instructor Wang Huiquan, highlighting key aspects of teaching Chinese and Tajik.
In his address, Emomali Nasriddinzoda, Rector of the Tajik National University, welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China Ji Shuming and other distinguished guests, noting that this event contributes to strengthening educational cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that the 2024 Chinese Ambassadorial Scholarship is a special project aimed at stimulating Tajik youth's interest in learning Chinese. He stated that this scholarship is not only an award for outstanding students but also a motivation for all students learning Chinese. The Rector expressed confidence that this initiative will contribute to strengthening the friendship between Tajikistan and China.
It was also noted that the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, attaches great importance to the study of foreign languages, viewing them as a key factor in the country's development, the personal growth of citizens, cultural exchange, and the advancement of Tajikistan in the international arena.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Tajikistan Ji Shuming addressed those present, noting the high level of Chinese-Tajik relations and the active development of cooperation in the field of education.
"First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding students awarded the Chinese Ambassador's Scholarship! We express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has shown concern and support for Chinese-Tajik cooperation in education," the diplomat noted.
He emphasized that China and Tajikistan are friendly neighbors, linked by mountains and rivers, and comprehensive strategic partners who trust each other. He stated that under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, relations between the two countries have made significant progress, establishing a model of mutually beneficial cooperation.
The ambassador noted that the establishment of the Chinese Ambassador's Scholarship is a concrete step toward implementing the agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries. Since its inception, the scholarship has supported more than 100 talented Tajik students.
"We are confident that as Chinese-Tajik relations deepen and the Belt and Road Initiative is implemented, the demand for qualified specialists familiar with the languages and cultures of both countries will increase," added Ji Shuming.
The ambassador also emphasized that in recent years, the number of Tajik students studying Chinese and Chinese students studying in Tajikistan has increased, which contributes to strengthening mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries. He encouraged students to use the Chinese language as a bridge for further cooperation and friendship.
In conclusion, the diplomat expressed gratitude to the leadership and faculty of the Tajik National University, the Metallurgical Faculty, and other educational institutions for their contribution to the teaching of the Chinese language and the development of educational ties between the two countries.
About 40 young people studying Chinese in Tajikistan, including five students from the Confucius Institute at TNU, received certificates from the Chinese Ambassador's scholarship.
The ceremony concluded with a speech of gratitude from the Chinese language students and the parents of one of the scholarship recipients, after which the participants took a commemorative photo together.
Over the past 17 years, the Confucius Institute at the National University of Tajikistan has become an important center for educational cooperation between Tajikistan and China. During this period, hundreds of students have deepened their knowledge of the Chinese language and culture. Today, a number of secondary schools across the country offer Chinese language classes, and scholarship programs from the Chinese Embassy provide young Tajik citizens with greater opportunities for personal and professional growth.
