The summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled for August 15 is a major success for American diplomacy, as it could allow for progress in resolving the Ukrainian conflict, US Vice President J.D. Vance said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.
"This is a major breakthrough for American diplomacy," he said in an interview.
According to him, the US goal is "to try to find some kind of diplomatic solution to the conflict so that Ukraine and Russia can live in peace."
In his opinion, neither side will be able to get everything they hoped for as a result of the settlement. "No one will be super happy," Vance said.
Moreover, he believes that for diplomacy to be successful, the parties should not blame each other for what happened, but focus on solving the problem.
He also emphasized that the US administration does not intend to further invest in arming Ukraine. "But if European countries want to buy weapons from us for Ukraine, that's fine," Vance added.
