Young chess player from Tajikistan, Murodali Saifiyev, took second place in the World High School Chess Championship, currently underway in Washington, D.C., according to the Tajikistan Chess Federation.
The competition began on August 3 and attracted 286 schoolchildren from 48 countries, representing 55 teams. The tournament has become one of the largest international platforms for young chess players.
Saifiyev competed on board four and, after seven rounds, scored 6 points out of a possible 7, earning him the silver medal. According to his coaches, the young chess player's performance was a significant achievement for Tajikistan on the world stage and a demonstration of the high level of preparation of the younger generation.
"We are proud of Murodali's achievements. His result demonstrates that the Tajik chess school has great potential and is capable of producing international-level players," the Tajik Chess Federation noted.
Tournament organizers emphasized that this year's championship featured such a large number of countries for the first time, which increased the level of competition and the significance of victories.
