Tajikistan and the Qatar Fund for Development signed an agreement for a $50 million soft loan for the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) construction project. The signing took place in Dushanbe with the participation of Tajikistan's Minister of Finance, Fayziddin Sattor Qahhorzoda, and Qatar Fund for Development Director General, Fahd Hamad Al-Sulaiti, according to the press service of the Tajik Ministry of Finance.
During the talks, the parties discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and the Qatar Foundation's participation in implementing new priority projects in Tajikistan.
The allocated funds will be used to continue construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is considered a key project for ensuring the republic's energy security. The project aims to increase electricity production to meet the country's domestic needs and boost the region's export potential.
"Implementation of this agreement will be an important step in strengthening national energy security and ensuring sustainable development in Tajikistan," the Ministry of Finance emphasized.
The construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, the largest hydroelectric facility in the country, is a strategic priority for the government of Tajikistan. Its commissioning will significantly expand renewable energy production and ensure a more stable power supply for residents and industry.
