During a working visit, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon inspected the construction of the dam and water intake tunnels at the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station (HPP), according to the presidential press service.
The Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant is the country's largest energy facility and a strategic project, largely responsible for the republic's energy security. The plant's dam, the tallest earth-and-rock dam in the world, has already reached 1,105 meters above sea level. Its height has been increased by 70 meters in the past year.
According to construction workers, 12.7 million cubic meters of rock, gravel, pebbles, and transition zone filters were placed in the dam's construction in 2025 alone, representing 42.6% of the design volume. Over 160 pieces of equipment and over a thousand specialists—engineers, builders, surveyors, and climbers—are working at the construction site around the clock.
Emomali Rahmon noted that the quality of the work performed must meet international standards, and the use of modern technologies will guarantee the dam's reliability and safety. The President emphasized that the Rogun hydroelectric power station has been recognized as an environmentally friendly facility and will eventually become one of the largest in the world in terms of safety and technical solutions.
The head of state paid special attention to the construction of water diversion tunnels No. 1 and No. 2. These structures are key components of the plant, delivering pressurized water to the hydroelectric units. Tunnel excavation and reinforcement work is in its final stages. Interior finishing is being carried out using 7-meter-diameter steel pipes. Pipes 64 meters long have already been installed in the water supply system of power unit No. 4 and 16.2 meters long in power unit No. 3.
The President instructed those responsible to complete the construction of water intake tunnels in strict compliance with international standards and emphasized that the stable operation of the station depends on these facilities.
"The Rogun HPP builders are demonstrating great patriotism and determination, working around the clock to bring closer the historic completion date of the century. This facility will open a new chapter in the country's history, ensure energy security, and become an engine of economic growth," Rahmon said.
The head of state was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Kokhir Rasulzoda, and the heads of relevant ministries and departments.
