A card featuring Messi sold for a record $1.5 million, Tengri Sport reports.
A trading card featuring Argentine footballer Lionel Messi from the 2004–2005 Panini set sold for $1.5 million (810 million tenge) at an online auction.
According to ESPN, this is the highest price ever paid for a football card.
The previous record was $1.33 million, which was paid in 2022 for a card featuring Brazilian Pelé.
In 2004, 17-year-old Messi made his official debut for Barcelona's senior team. Traditionally, cards from the debut seasons of future superstars are particularly prized among collectors.
Messi, 38, has been playing for Inter Miami for the past two years. He is a 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, a 2008 Olympic champion, a 10-time Spanish champion, a two-time French champion, and a four-time Champions League winner.
