Tajik athletes won three medals on the first day of the Sambo World Cup, which is taking place in Dushanbe with the participation of more than 220 wrestlers from 12 countries. This was reported by the Committee for Youth and Sports of Tajikistan.
Anushervon Nazarzoda won silver in the 58 kg weight category. Komronshhoh Ustopiriyon (98 kg) and Khurshed Majidzoda (+98 kg) took bronze.
The competition kicked off on September 20 at the sports complex of the Tajik National University. At the opening ceremony, Zulfikor Gulahmadzoda, Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Sports, noted that holding an international tournament of this level in Dushanbe is a clear indication of the progress of Tajik sambo and contributes to strengthening friendship between peoples.
Athletes from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and other countries are participating in the tournament. The Tajikistan team consists of 15 athletes, including both men and women.
Following the first day of competition, which saw awards awarded in several weight categories in sport and combat sambo, athletes from Kazakhstan and representatives of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) are in the lead.
The competition will continue and conclude with an official awards ceremony, where the winners will be presented with cups, medals, and commemorative prizes.
