Boxer Behruz Umarov won Tajikistan's first gold medal at the 2025 CIS Games in Azerbaijan, according to the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan.
In the final of the 50 kg boxing competition, Behruz Umarov defeated Azizbek Shokirjonov of Uzbekistan. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Ramil Khurbanov of Belarus, and in the semifinals, Ayhan Khasanov, representing the host country.
After winning the gold medal and his victory, Behruz Umarov couldn't contain his emotions and walked around the ring with the Tajikistan flag, expressing his joy at having won the country's first gold medal at the Games.
As of today, the Tajikistan team has won 17 medals at the third CIS Games 2025: one gold, three silver and thirteen bronze.
Among the country's other medalists: silver medals were won by Akbardzhon Abdulloev (57 kg) and Azamdzhon Hasanov (48 kg) in boxing, and Yusuf Zamonov (-50 kg) in judo. Bronze medals were received by: Abubakr Khudoiev (-55 kg) and Loik Kudbuddinov (-60 kg) in judo; Idris Bakhromov (71 kg) and Alirizo Bakhromov (80 kg) in freestyle wrestling; Nazareli Kholov (64 kg) and Yosin Khukumatov (71 kg) in sambo; Abdujafar Bakhodur (54 kg) and Nurullo Murodov (74 kg) in taekwondo; Amir Nozimov (75 kg), Umardzhon Asrorov (66 kg), Damir Nazarov (46 kg), Furug Sarkhadzoda (60 kg) in boxing; and also Muhammadi Radjabov in canoeing.
As a reminder, the Third CIS Games will be held from September 28 to October 8, 2025, in seven cities across Azerbaijan. Tajikistan will be represented by 142 athletes competing in 18 sports.
