On October 3, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Firdavs Tolibzoda, met with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Georgiy Orlov, the EBRD's Director for Financial Institutions in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Mongolia, and Turkey, the press service of the National Bank of Tajikistan reported.
During the meeting, Firdavs Tolibzoda briefed EBRD representatives on the current macroeconomic situation and the state of Tajikistan's banking system. He emphasized that despite the high level of economic uncertainty in the region, the country's macroeconomic indicators and banking system remain stable.
The parties discussed further strengthening cooperation within the EBRD's financial sector projects, including support for small and medium-sized businesses, women entrepreneurs, and youth initiatives, as well as the development of a green economy. They also discussed opportunities for developing financial and capital markets, improving an effective monetary policy mechanism, and enhancing the resilience of the country's banking system.
Particular attention was paid to the development of Tajikistan's insurance market. In particular, the meeting participants discussed the adoption of the "Strategy for the Development of the Insurance System in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2025-2029," noting that the document will serve as an important foundation for reforms and aligning the insurance sector with modern requirements. The parties agreed that cooperation between the National Bank of Tajikistan and the EBRD will contribute to strengthening the capacity of insurance supervision and the introduction of modern insurance services.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, with participants expressing their readiness to continue implementing priority projects and working together to ensure the sustainable development of the country's financial system.
