Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first footballer in history to reach the $1 billion mark, Bloomberg reports. The 40-year-old's net worth is estimated at $1.4 billion.
According to Bloomberg, Ronaldo is included in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. It is noted that for a long time, the Portuguese earned roughly the same as his main rival, Argentina's Lionel Messi. That changed in 2023, when Ronaldo signed a record contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr worth approximately $200 million. The contract was later extended, bringing its value to over $400 million.
By comparison, Lionel Messi has been playing for American club Inter Miami since 2023 and earns less than the Portuguese footballer. It is expected that the Argentine will receive a stake in the club after retiring, which will bring him closer to Ronaldo's level of income.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a five-time UEFA Champions League winner, a European Champion, and a two-time UEFA Nations League winner. He is also the all-time leading scorer in the history of his national team, the European Championship, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup. During his career, Ronaldo has scored over 900 goals in official matches—a first in world football history.
The Portuguese has been named the world's best player five times, winning the Ballon d'Or. His career continues, and he remains one of the most sought-after and highly paid footballers on the planet.
