Former head coach of the Uzbekistan women's national football team, Sherali Bobokulov, has been appointed head coach of Istaravshan, a club competing in the Tajikistan Men's Premier League. This was reported by the portal Fergana.ru.
The Uzbek specialist replaced Tajikistan's Shukhrat Shamsiev, who had led the team since the start of the season. This is Bobokulov's first appointment in professional men's football. His contract runs until the end of this year.
The new coach faces a key task: saving the club from relegation from the Premier League. In his first game under Bobokulov, on October 19, Istaravshan unexpectedly defeated one of the league leaders, CSKA Dushanbe, with a score of 2-1.
Istaravshan has four Uzbek players on its roster, which could make it easier for the new coach to adapt to the team.
For several years, Sherali Bobokulov coached the Uzbekistan women's national team, as well as the Sogdiana-W club from Jizzakh. In 2021, he was named the best coach of women's football in Uzbekistan. Under his leadership, Sogdiana-W won the Uzbekistan Championship and Cup, as well as the AFC Women's Club Championship.
