Over the past 24 hours, Russian armed forces have attacked 73 Ukrainian settlements. As a result of the shelling, 22 people were killed and 85 more were injured to varying degrees of severity. This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his official Telegram channel.
According to the head of state, the intense shelling took place amid statements about possible peace initiatives. Zelensky stressed that such actions contradict statements about the desire to cease fire and only exacerbate the suffering of civilians.
"Yesterday, President Trump made some very important comments about how the Russian leadership is wasting the world's time by talking about ending the war while continuing to kill people," he said.
"We all want a real, decent, long-term peace. Many decent leaders and states in the world support us," Zelensky added.
Attacks on civilian infrastructure
One of the most tragic episodes of the last 24 hours was the night missile strike on the territory of the city hospital in Kamenskoye, Dnipropetrovsk region. According to the President of Ukraine, three people were killed in the shelling, including a 23-year-old pregnant woman named Diana.
Late in the evening, already closer to midnight, Russian aviation struck the territory of a correctional facility in the Zaporizhia region. Zelensky emphasized that, in the opinion of the Ukrainian side, the strike was deliberately carried out on a facility with civilians.
"This was a targeted strike, not accidental. The Russians could not have failed to know where the ammunition was aimed. As a result, there were many dead and 43 wounded, including seriously injured," the president noted.
Reaction to US initiatives
Commenting on the new initiatives of US President Donald Trump, the Ukrainian leader noted the importance of the 10-day deadline he had announced for Russia to reach agreements. The new deadline replaced the previously announced 50-day period, which was supposed to expire in September.
The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, also expressed gratitude to the American leadership:
"Putin understands only the language of force. Thanks to President Trump for the clear signal: peace is possible only through pressure," Yermak wrote on Telegram.
Consequences and appeals
The President of Ukraine called on the international community to tighten sanctions pressure on Moscow:
"Every blow, every murder is evidence that tough and effective international measures are needed. Peace is possible when the aggression started by Russia ceases and the suffering of civilians is stopped," Zelensky summed up.
