US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to shorten the deadline previously set for reaching a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The American leader announced this during a press conference in Turnberry, Scotland, together with UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer.
According to the head of the White House, he is "deeply disappointed by the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin," noting that he had hoped for progress in negotiations to resolve the conflict.
"We've had discussions and we thought we'd come to some kind of resolution many times. And then Putin goes out and starts launching missiles into a city like Kyiv, killing a lot of people, and I say, 'You can't do that.' So we'll see what happens," Trump said.
The American leader specified that he had previously given Moscow 50 days to reach an agreement with Kiev. However, as he emphasized, he was ready to review this deadline and introduce new restrictive measures, including high duties and secondary sanctions, if there was no progress.
Trump also said that he had several telephone conversations with Putin and believed that the conflict "could have been resolved many times over."
"Ukraine wants to do something to stop the war. All that is heard from Russia is talk," he added.
Meanwhile, according to statements by the American administration, if the Russian side fails to act, the United States may introduce additional pressure measures in the coming weeks.
