Work on the third edition began in 2023 at the initiative of the Committee on Environmental Protection in collaboration with scientists from the National Academy of Sciences. The updated list includes 304 plant species and 242 animal species that are at risk of extinction.
For comparison, the previous, second edition of the Red Book, published in 2015, included 267 plant species and 222 animal species.
As the presentation participants emphasized, the Red Book remains the most important state document aimed at preserving biological diversity and rational use of the country's natural resources.
