Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan, Governor of Tajikistan at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Sulton Rahimzoda has been elected Deputy Chairman of the annual meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors. This was reported by the press service of the committee.
The meeting, held from 23 to 27 June 2025 in Beijing, brought together delegations from member countries to discuss the bank’s current and future activities aimed at sustainable infrastructure development and strengthening regional cooperation.
During the event, a meeting was held between the Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Faiziddin Kahhorzoda and Sulton Rahimzoda and the Vice President of AIIB Konstantin Limitovsky. During the negotiations, an agreement was signed on the provision of a grant in the amount of 2.04 million US dollars. The funds are used to implement the social components of the project "Construction of the Obigarm – Nurobod Road".
Sulton Rahimzoda also took part in thematic sessions and panel discussions, including on the topics: “Promoting high-quality cross-border infrastructure: experience and lessons of international financial institutions” and “Business Roundtable of Managers”, where he presented Tajikistan’s position on sustainable infrastructure development.
Today, AIIB remains one of Tajikistan’s key partners in implementing infrastructure projects. As of May 1, 2025, the bank has financed four major investment projects in the country for a total of $410.5 million. Among them is a $270 million loan allocated in December 2024 for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station.
AIIB financing supports the development of strategically important sectors of the Tajikistan economy, including energy and transport, and aims to create a sustainable infrastructure base for future growth.
