On Thursday, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, remotely commissioned a new road section of the international highway Dushanbe-Kulyab-Darvaz-Khorog-Murghab-Kulma, connecting Tajikistan with China. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
The opened facilities include 3.7 kilometers of upgraded road, a 550-meter avalanche protection tunnel and an 82-meter long road bridge in the village of Barsem, Suchon jamoat, Shugnan district, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
As specified, the project was implemented using modern technologies and equipment in difficult mountain conditions with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and international partners. The purpose of the construction was to modernize the strategically important highway and ensure year-round transport accessibility to remote areas.
According to local authorities, the upgraded section of the road was built in accordance with international standards and plays a key role in ensuring sustainable communication between the country's regions, as well as in developing Tajikistan's transit potential.
Residents of the Shugnan district and Suchon jamoat expressed sincere gratitude to the Government and personally to President Emomali Rahmon for the implementation of the project, which significantly improves living conditions and safety of movement in the region.
Let us recall that in 2015, as a result of a natural disaster, the road in the area of the village of Barsem was seriously damaged and partially flooded, which caused long-term disruptions in traffic.
The implementation of the project to restore and strengthen the road infrastructure in this area is a striking example of state policy aimed at supporting the population, developing regions and strengthening Tajikistan’s position in the international arena.
