First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Solehzoda Ashurboy Abduvohid held a meeting with the head of the Eurasian Department of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) William Thompson. The talks took place in Dushanbe as part of the visit of the OECD delegation to Tajikistan.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the prospects for strengthening regional cooperation within the framework of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor initiative and expanding economic integration in the Central Asian region.
During the talks, Solehzoda noted that under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, large-scale projects have been implemented in the country to build and modernize international highways, transform Tajikistan into a transit state, and transform transport arteries into full-fledged economic corridors. According to him, in this area, there is stable cooperation with international financial institutions and partner countries for development.
The parties discussed key areas of cooperation, including the development of transport and road infrastructure, the creation of logistics hubs, the simplification of trade procedures, and the implementation of digital solutions in the field of customs and transport administration.
Particular attention was paid to the importance of sustainable transport corridors for landlocked countries such as Tajikistan. OECD representatives emphasized the importance of the Trans-Caspian route as a tool for access to global markets, diversification of export routes, as well as attracting investment and expanding international cooperation.
Topics discussed also included environmental sustainability, digital transformation, coordination of electronic customs platforms and the development of green infrastructure.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to expand their partnership and implement joint projects aimed at sustainable economic development of the region.
