An International Tourism Forum and Exhibition called "Khatlon – the Flaming Heart of Tourism" is being held in Kulyab. The events are organized to promote the tourism potential of the Khatlon region, as well as to develop cooperation between domestic and foreign tourism companies, NIAT "Khovar" reports.
The forum aims to popularize the region's rich historical, cultural and natural heritage. Participants' attention is focused on such areas as health and wellness, ecological, mountain, hunting tourism, as well as mountaineering and pilgrimage routes.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, the Chairman of the Khatlon Region Davlatali Said emphasized that the region has unique natural and cultural attractions. Among them are the Sari Khosor waterfall, Childukhtaron mountain, the Chiluchorchashma spring, the ancient city of Ajinateppa, the Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadoni mausoleum, the Takhti Sangin archaeological complex, the Khoja Mashhad madrasah, the Tigrovaya Balka nature reserve and the Nurek hydroelectric power station.
According to Davlatali Said, in the first five months of this year alone, more than 406 thousand tourists visited Khatlon, which is 223 thousand more than in the same period in 2024. The region is actively developing its tourism infrastructure – there are more than 120 hotels, 45 museums, dozens of travel companies, restaurants and souvenir shops, as well as 26 tourist information centers.
Particular attention is paid to training personnel for the industry. Training in tourism specialties is conducted in five higher educational institutions of the region, including universities in Kulyab, Bokhtar, Dangara and Levakant.
The forum organizers expressed confidence that the development of tourism in the Khatlon region will become an important factor in economic growth, job creation and the international positioning of the region as one of the tourist centers of Central Asia.
