Law enforcement officers have identified two cases of misappropriation of funds and material assets, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
In the city of Isfara, a 36-year-old head of the local power grid billing department was detained on suspicion of systematically embezzling funds received from the population for electricity payments. According to the investigation, since June 2021, he received amounts from 1.85 to 3 thousand somoni from several consumers, did not deposit them into the enterprise's cash desk and spent them on personal needs. The total damage is being clarified. A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under Part 2 of Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tatarstan, an investigation is underway.
In the city of Nurek, law enforcement officers have uncovered a case of theft of food products intended for school meals. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the 50-year-old deputy director for economic affairs of Secondary School No. 4 appropriated over 4.5 tons of food in 2024–2025. She received 242.01 kg of beef worth 21,251 somoni 58 dirams, 470 kg of chicken worth 18,928.79 somoni, 2,041.40 kg of potatoes worth 10,573 somoni 40 dirams, 908 kg of sugar worth 10,277 somoni 71 dirams and other food products worth 13,463 somoni 60 dirams. She was supposed to hand over the taken products to the institution’s chef, but she appropriated them and caused significant damage to the institution in the amount of 74,495 somoni.
A criminal case has been opened against the woman under Part 3 of Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tatarstan. Investigative actions are underway.
