In the southern and central regions of Khatlon region, regions of republican subordination (RRS) and in the city of Dushanbe, dust storms accompanied by strong winds are expected in the afternoon of June 19, as well as in the period from June 20 to 22. This was reported by the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the Hydrometeorological Center, dusty air masses will enter the territory of the republic from the south, southwest and west. Wind speed in some places can reach 15-20 meters per second, which will lead to a sharp deterioration in the quality of atmospheric air.
During this period, a significant increase in air pollution by fine particles is expected – including particles measuring 10 microns (PM-10) and 2.5 microns (PM-2.5), which may adversely affect public health, especially for people with chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
Experts strongly recommend:
– reduce time spent outdoors;
– keep windows and vents in living and working areas closed;
– use humidifiers;
– avoid intense physical activity and reduce the duration of outdoor sports;
– drink more fluids to maintain the body's water balance.
In addition, on June 18 and 19, in certain foothill and mountainous areas of the Sughd region, the RRS and in the west of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, due to hot weather and rapid melting of snow, the risk of local mudflows remains.
The Hydrometeorological Center continues to monitor the situation and calls on citizens to closely follow official information and weather warnings.
