As a result of a traffic accident in the city of Levakant in the Khatlon region, two teenagers were killed, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan reports.
As specified, the tragedy occurred on June 15, 2025, at about 18:00. According to preliminary data, a resident of the city of Levakant, Mirzomurodzoda Mehrob Sharaf, born in 2002, was driving an electric tricycle and was traveling towards the city center from the village of Nizhniy Vakhsh. His cousin, Komilzoda Shakhnoza Shirinbek, born in 2009, a resident of the Abdurakhman Jomi district, was with him, temporarily visiting her aunt.
During the trip, the girl repeatedly asked her brother to let her drive. At some point, he agreed, despite her age and lack of driving skills.
Near the village of Sarband, while driving on a bridge over the Vakhsh River, a minor lost control. The electric tricycle fell off the bridge and into the river, killing the teenagers.
Police, prosecutors and rescue service officers immediately arrived at the scene. An investigation is underway, the necessary forensic and technical examinations have been ordered, and all the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
As noted by law enforcement agencies, the tragedy could have been prevented if the participants had observed basic safety standards. The authorities once again called on parents and citizens to strictly control the movement of minors and their access to driving vehicles, including electric ones.
