The spring potato sowing campaign continues in Penjikent. Farmers of the Amondara jamoat intend to sow 280 hectares of agricultural land with potatoes this year, the city administration reported.
As specified by the Penjikent mayor's office, potato sowing work continues on the territory of the Dashti Malla farm named after Firdousi; at the moment, 50 hectares have already been sown.
The contribution of an experienced farmer, pensioner and former teacher Mullonazar Ubaidov, who developed previously unsuitable for agriculture areas, is separately noted. He transformed sloping dryland lands of 0.1 hectares, carried out irrigation and planted early varieties of potatoes, which are now in the flowering stage. According to the farmer himself, the first harvest is expected in the coming weeks.

An active potato planting campaign is also continuing in the Djumaev dekhkan farm in the village of Zarnisor. Here, collective planting work has covered an area of 12 hectares.
To improve the melioration condition of the land and increase crop yields, last year, on the initiative of local city authorities and with the participation of development partners, a new irrigation canal was built from the Dupula pumping station, which made it possible to provide water to 100 hectares of previously unproductive land.

During his review of the progress of field work, the city chairman, Abdukholik Kholikzoda, gave instructions to agricultural producers to speed up the pace of spring sowing and ensure high-quality implementation of the potato and other crop planting campaign.
“The development of potato growing is one of the priority areas of the region’s agricultural policy, and the efficient use of land and the attraction of new areas for agricultural crops contributes to food security,” emphasized Abdukholik Kholikzoda.
