In the first half of 2026, 83 people died in Tajikistan's waterways, eight fewer than the same period last year. This was reported at a press conference by the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The largest number of tragic cases were registered in the Khatlon and Sughd regions, as well as in cities and districts of republican subordination.
According to the Committee, among the dead were nine children under four years of age, 11 children between five and ten years of age, 13 teenagers between 11 and 16 years of age, 23 people between 17 and 35 years of age, and 27 people over 35 years of age.
Thus, the number of children and adolescents under 17 who died was 33, or 39.8% of the total number of drowned.
Among those who died in the water were 65 men and 18 women.
The Emergency Situations Committee noted that during the swimming season, it is conducting enhanced preventative measures in conjunction with relevant agencies and local authorities. This includes television and radio broadcasts, dissemination of information materials, and publication of warnings about the need to observe water safety regulations.
