A Tajik school student won a bronze medal at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026), which took place from July 4 to 12 in Bucaramanga, Colombia. This marks a new achievement for Tajikistan's education system at one of the world's most prestigious physics competitions.
This year, more than 400 schoolchildren from over 90 countries participated in the Olympiad. The total number of participants, national team leaders, experts, and organizers exceeded 1,000.
The Republic of Tajikistan was represented at the international competition by a national team consisting of Muhammadyosin Mamurov, Azam Kodirov, Muhammadamin Amirov, Khusrav Mayusupov, and Ramziddin Odinaev. The team was coached by Jamshed Rustam and Daler Pirov.
The bronze medal at the Olympiad was won by Mamurov Muhammadyosin, an 11th-grade student at the Tajik-Russian Boarding Lyceum named after "Khotam and P.V." in Dushanbe, representing the national team of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The International Physics Olympiad was established in 1967 and is held annually to identify and support the most talented schoolchildren who have demonstrated outstanding abilities in physics. The competition consists of two stages—theoretical and experimental—and participants' work is evaluated by leading international experts.
The Organizing Committee of the Olympiad includes Nobel Prize laureates in physics Serge Haroche, Albert Fert, Anne L'Huillet, Pierre Agostini, Alain Aspect and Gérard Mourou, which underlines the high international prestige of this scientific competition.
