Chinese President Xi Jinping presented the China National Science and Technology Prize to two scientists in Beijing and delivered a speech. This year's laureates were Chen Liquan, the developer of China's first lithium batteries, and Ben De, a Chinese expert in radar technology and systems. A total of 258 projects and 11 scientists were selected for the prizes this year. A total of 51 projects were awarded the Natural Sciences Prize. Fifty-eight projects received the National Technological Invention Prize, and a total of 149 projects received the National Scientific and Technological Progress Prize.
