In Tajikistan, work totaling 497,486,000 somoni is planned for completion in 2026 under five state sectoral programs in land reclamation and irrigation. This was announced on July 9 at a press conference by the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the results of the first half of 2026.
Funding is directed towards improving the condition of agricultural lands, carrying out coastal protection works, developing new irrigated areas, restoring pumping stations and developing irrigation infrastructure.
One of the key areas is the implementation of a program to improve the melioration condition of agricultural lands.
In 2026, 18,076 hectares of agricultural land are planned to be improved. 22.2 million somoni have been allocated for these purposes.
As of July 1, work worth 5.2 million somoni has been carried out on an area of 4,440 hectares.
Significant funds are also allocated to protect territories from water-related natural disasters.
Under the State Coastal Protection Program for 2023–2027, 31,497 km of work is planned for this year. The total cost of these projects is 82.1 million somoni.
During the first half of the year, restoration and coastal protection work was completed along 37,259 km of the river. 33.8 million somoni were allocated for these purposes.
Thus, the plan for the volume of completed coastal protection works reached 118%.
Another area of focus is the modernization of pumping stations. As part of the investment program to equip facilities with modern energy-saving electrical equipment, 194 million somoni of equipment replacement, repair, and restoration are planned for 2026.
During the first half of the year, work worth 65.9 million somoni was completed using funds from international financial institutions, international organizations, the state budget, and other sources.
In addition, the country continues to implement the Land Reclamation and Irrigation Development Program for 2024–2028.
64.3 million somoni have been allocated from all funding sources for program activities in 2026. Work worth 15.6 million somoni was completed between January and June.
In addition to state programs, five investment projects worth a total of $179.7 million are being implemented in the field of land reclamation and irrigation in Tajikistan.
In the first six months of 2026, $16.9 million, or 103% of the plan for the first half of the year, was spent within the framework of these projects.
Since the start of the projects, the volume of funds allocated has reached $85.9 million.
