On the night of Monday, July 6, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kyiv using ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as attack drones. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the attack.
According to authorities in the Ukrainian capital, at least 11 people were killed in the attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that at least 46 more people were injured.
Of the injured, 27 were hospitalized. Three children were among those taken to hospital.
Fires and destruction were reported in several areas of Kyiv.
Some of the most severe damage was recorded in the Podilskyi district in northwest Kyiv. An apartment building there was partially destroyed.
According to Vitali Klitschko, people were trapped between the seventh and ninth floors of the building.
In the same area, debris fell on another residential building, as well as on the territory of a garage cooperative.
Later, the mayor of Kyiv reported that 15 people had been evacuated from the fire-engineered building in the Podilskyi district. Rescuers rescued three women and six children from the upper floors.
The aftermath of the attack was also recorded in the Darnytskyi district in the southeast of the Ukrainian capital. Residential buildings were damaged in three locations in the district.
A fire broke out in a five-story residential building in the Holosiivskyi district, located in the southwestern part of Kyiv. This was reported by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
A man died in the Kyiv region, and a nine-month-old child was among the injured.
The Kyiv region also came under attack.
One person was killed in the attack in the Bucha district, according to Mykola Kalashnik, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
According to him, another 15 residents of the Kyiv region were injured. Among the victims was a nine-month-old girl.
Eleven of the wounded were hospitalized.
The consequences of the attack were recorded in the Bucha, Vyshgorod and Brovarsky districts of the Kyiv region.
According to Kalashnik, the strikes damaged private homes, businesses, and other civilian infrastructure.
Emergency services are working at the scene of the incidents.
Strikes were also carried out on Odessa
On the night of July 6, Odessa was also attacked.
The head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, reported that a 23-year-old man was wounded as a result of Russian strikes.
In addition, private residential buildings were damaged.
Zelensky warned yesterday of a possible massive strike
The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, citing intelligence data, stated that Russia was preparing a massive strike on Ukrainian territory.
The Ukrainian president linked the possible attack to the period following US Independence Day and the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
"This is in Putin's spirit – right after America's Independence Day and before the NATO summit in Ankara," Zelensky said.
He also called on Ukraine's international partners not to delay the delivery of missiles for air defense systems.
The North Atlantic Alliance summit is scheduled to take place on July 7 and 8 in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
