The United States conducted the first successful test of its new Golden Dome missile defense system, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced, according to Interfax.
According to him, the test of the "Golden Dome for America" project was successful. The Pentagon chief noted that he personally attended the test and witnessed the new defense technologies in action.
According to Hegseth, the test utilized advanced directed-energy technologies and a dynamic autonomous attack (DDAD) system. He stated that the system automatically detected, tracked, and destroyed several incoming targets, neutralizing all threats during the test.
The Minister of Defense emphasized that the project implements the strategic defense concept proposed by US President Ronald Reagan as part of the Strategic Defense Initiative. According to Hegseth, the Golden Dome system is designed to significantly strengthen the defense of the United States against modern missile threats.
It was previously reported that Pete Hegseth and Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael were present at laser and microwave weapons tests at a military testing ground in New Mexico.
Project Golden Dome is a large-scale, multi-layered missile and air defense system designed to protect the United States from ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles. Development of the system has been underway since 2025 under the leadership of the U.S. Space Force and the Department of Defense.
According to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office, constructing and operating the entire Golden Dome structure over twenty years could cost approximately $1.2 trillion. This figure significantly exceeds the Trump administration's initial estimate of approximately $175 billion.
