The United States and Iran have established a dedicated communication line to promptly resolve issues related to the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Interfax reports, citing Iranian media.
According to official Iranian media, the agreement was reached as part of negotiations between representatives of the two countries. The new mechanism is designed to ensure prompt cooperation between the parties and prevent potential incidents in one of the world's most important maritime transport corridors.
As Ghalibaf noted, the creation of a direct communication channel will help avoid conflict situations that may arise when ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, the Iranian parliament speaker reported that during recent talks held in Switzerland, Washington and Tehran also agreed to unfreeze Iranian assets worth $12 billion.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was among the leaders of the Iranian delegation that participated in negotiations with the American side.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's key routes for transporting oil and liquefied natural gas, linking the Persian Gulf with the Indian Ocean.
