On the night of June 15, Russian troops launched massive strikes on Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine. According to Ukrainian authorities, the attacks killed nine people and wounded dozens more.
One of the sites damaged during the attack was the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, a massive fire broke out on the monastery complex's grounds.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko clarified that the fire broke out on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral, the main church of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. At the time of publication, there were no reports of injuries within the complex.
According to city authorities, the strikes on Kyiv damaged residential buildings in several districts of the capital. In the Pechersky district, a five-story building was struck, in Solomensky, a nine-story building, and in the Obolonsky district, a residential building partially collapsed after being hit.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, hits were recorded on civilian infrastructure, including a market and a grocery store. Damage to a 25-story residential building was also reported.
According to Timur Tkachenko, at least four people were killed and 25 more were injured in Kyiv. The attack also damaged power lines in the northern part of the capital. Vitali Klitschko reported that approximately 140,000 customers were left without power.
The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra has been repeatedly damaged since the start of the full-scale conflict. In January 2026, another attack seriously damaged the gallery leading to the Far Caves complex. Back in 2023, UNESCO recognized the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and St. Sophia Cathedral as being under threat due to military action. According to the Ukrainian side, approximately 1,600 cultural heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed since the beginning of the war.
Kharkiv also came under fire on the night of June 15. According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, a second strike occurred while firefighters were extinguishing a fire at one of the facilities. Five rescuers were killed and at least five more were injured.
According to Ukrainian media, the deceased emergency services personnel were dealing with the aftermath of a shelling that occurred earlier that night.
